Probably once a week, Jesus really points out things I put in front of him, things that become more attractive and dull me to the truth. Yesterday, I read Jesus’ words in Luke 21:34 and it was like…ah, there’s some truth:
“Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkennes, and by the worries of this life.”
I’ve been praying and asking Jesus about this, things that are dulling me. I’ve also been reading about it and like what this study says about that last part:
Notice that Jesus puts the cares of this life in the same category as drunkenness. Both can dull our senses, our watchfulness. We can be so preoccupied with the affairs of this life — families, jobs, relationships, self-improvement, education, vacations, suffering, sickness, and death — that we no longer are careful of what is going on around us spiritually. Our whole focus is on living our lives, and this can shift us away from listening to God and observing what he is doing. We disciples are very susceptible to being dulled by the cares of life.
This hits me, today especially, as I’ve had trouble focusing. Let’s help each other in this, that we know what’s going on around us spiritually… that we’re able listen and see what God is doing… and then obey. Let’s press into him together!
